GoT Set-jetting the economy

“Set-jetting” is about visiting the sets or locations where GoT was filmed.. It’s a modern iteration of the literary pilgrimage – remember how Stratford-upon-Avon for long thrived on the memory of its most famous dead resident, Shakespeare? Or the Lake District with its many literary greats like Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter?Iceland’s economy, from being on the brink of collapse in 2008, has become a European success story within 10 years largely due to the recent boom in tourism, and specifically, the hit TV series, Game of Thrones. Many of Iceland’s glaciers, lakes and national parks serve as the backdrop for the “lands beyond the wall” and the popularity of the show has given rise to massive increases in tourism, as the show’s many diehard fans from around the world make pilgrimages. With this boom, the Icelandic Krona has appreciated massively. The tourist number in Iceland is estimated to reach about seven times its population in 2017!
