Why visit Maldives?

Maldives Map Outline

Maldives, a tropical country in the Indian Ocean, is composed of 26 coral atolls each made up of hundreds of islands (a total of over 1100 of them, of which only 200 are inhabited). It is a land of beaches, lagoons, extensive reefs, coral reefs, shipwrecks – a heaven for chilling out. Of course, Male, the capital city, has busy streets and markets along with a mosque made of carved white coral.

Tourism is a major source of revenue for the country with about 90% of the governments’ revenue coming from tourism and related activities! You can imagine the importance given to tourists and tourism infrastructure.

I went there for chilling… And did just that… So don’t expect great insights in this write-up. It’s a great place to chill… Just do that. And if you have a partner, go as a couple – it’s a romantic paradise… Even if not, you can still have fun – I went alone and had a great time with myself… It’s the perfect setting for romancing yourself, the Sun and the Sea…

The place is renowned for the pristine natural beauty of oceans and endless beaches where the active ones can indulge in a plethora of activities like swimming, fishing, scuba-diving, snorkelling, water-skiing, windsurfing and kite boarding. I, of course, had a grand time with my favourite activity – it’s called lazily-lying-on-the-beach-with-a-beer-at-arm’s-length.

On a more serious note, the Maldives is ranked among the best recreational diving destinations of the world. It was also reported to be the world’s most desired honeymoon destination…

Typically, a tourist resort in the Maldives consists of an exclusive hotel on its own island, with its population entirely based on tourists and work force, with no local people or houses. Super privacy, seclusion and a lovely lazy time with nothing to distract you from the hedonistic pleasures of life…

Nowadays there are options of hotels on the mainland where the resorts still have beach access but aren’t as exclusive and cut-away… So a limit on the privacy and distractions from hedonism, but compensated for by the price…

We have brought out for you a few such experiences – some in exclusive islands with the privacy and luxury and some in the mainland where one will miss the novelty of staying on an island where the only occupants are from your hotel but will have immersive experiences and see the real Maldives… Take a look… And book your trip to a world of hedonism… Trust me you can afford to slip into hedonism once in a while… 😉

Top Things to do in Maldives

Watch the beach light up like a Christmas tree

Originally thought to be caused by phytoplankton, one type of glowing sea organism, the glowing, starry beaches in the Maldives are courtesy of a type of tiny crustacean called ostracods. This phenomenon usually occurs from around September to November, but it all really depends on the moon and weather.

Witness a stingray feeding

The Maldives is home to thousands of marine life species, including curious stingrays, which are a common sight around some resorts. While you may not want to get too close to them while swimming or shuffling along in shallow waters, you can catch a casual feeding.

Swim with Mammoth Manta Rays and Whale Sharks

Don your snorkel or scuba gear and get into the water with some of the Maldives’ most gentle giants. While getting lost in a school of massive manta rays can feel quite surreal, sharing space with whale sharks — the world’s largest mammal — is bound to leave you feeling humble and breathless (in a good way).

Have an Underwater Meal

Conrad Rangali’s Ithaa isn’t the world’s only underwater restaurant, but it is the world’s first all-glass underwater restaurant. It is also home to the Maldives’ largest wine cellar and a gourmet European menu, serving set courses for lunch and dinner. This only-in-the-Maldives experience seats diners under a glass arch of swimming sea life.

Scuba Dive a Shipwreck and Spot the Maldives' Big Five

The diverse, rich, and unique marine eco-systems found in the Maldives make for fabulous diving territory. Both expert divers and beginners can see beautiful coral, a spectrum of colourful fish, and different types of treats like eels, puffers, lobsters, shy clams, and conchs. You can even try your hand at scuba diving a shipwreck or scouting out the Big Five — sea turtles, eagle rays, whale sharks, manta rays, and dolphins.

Befriend Dolphins on a Cruise

Want to see some dolphins? You’ve got about an 85 percent chance of spotting these gleeful marine mammals if you look in the waters. The best times for sightings are mid-morning and late afternoon.

Things to note

The months between December and April constitute the summer season in Maldives. The island boasts off dry weather. There will be little or no rain showers during this time, which makes it the ideal season to travel.

What our Travellers Say

Mandar SalunkheBeyonder Traveller - Cambodia

The trip overall was a quite nice and enriching experience. Cambodia as a country with its different culture as well as the epic nature of the monuments that we witnessed left us awestruck. The guide was quite helpful and was knowledgeable too. The hotel facility was decent and was in a nice locality that had good access to Pub Street, Airport, as well as restaurants for lunch/dinner…

We would surely visit other places too through Beyonder as you did hand hold us throughout the entire process of the trip unlike other travel agents that forget the client once the money is paid.
