The excavations were supervised by professor Dragutin Gorjanovic-Kramberger, who is a well known Croatian geologist. His work has significantly contributed to the European and global science of the fossil man. In the cave’s sandstone deposits, which were 8 meters high about 900 human fossil bones were found, which is the largest and most abundant collection of Neanderthal people, which was collected at a single locality. The fossils of the individuals, both male and female were from the age group of 2 to 40.

Among the numerous fossils remains of many animals like the cave bear, wolf, elk, giant deer, woolly rhinoceros, etc… were found, along with it thousand pieces of stone tools from the Palaeolithic age, or the early stone age were discovered at the site, that helps create a picture of the material culture of the Krapina Neanderthals.

The rich paleontological locality corresponds to a period of about 125,000 years ago. The findings from the Krapina, result in different theories, which lay seeds to many discussions even today. The paleontological importance and a large number of fossil specimens are particularly attractive.

Sunset in Zadar

People say the best things in life come for free. In the words of the famous director Alfred Hitchcock described the sunset of Zadar in the following words “It must be the most beautiful sunset in the world” and it is very well known that the famous director had an eye for a good shot. Spectacular colours and the sound of the sea organ will leave you breathless. Zadar completely changes as the sun goes down. The colors are richer the light is more beautiful. The most preferred spot to watch the sunset is at the steps of the Sea Organ, where you will be treated to both a sound and light show. One of the best places to take some of the wonderful photographs of the sunset.

Pillar of Shame

Don’t get your hopes up – this is just an old pillar in a historic Croatian Square. Looking much the worse for wear since it has been standing for many centuries in the open…

But let your imagination run and you will be awed by the history and violence that this post would have witnessed. Once upon a time, hundreds of years ago, this would have been one of the most frightening sights for the guilty-at-heart.

Then, it was a place where accused/ guilty were chained to be mocked, humiliated and whipped. Most times, the whole city would stop by to witness this spectacle. That is why this was called the Pillar of Shame. It seems to blend well with the rest of the Square, with its ancient Roman architecture… This Square, by the way, was once the center of Roman life in Zadar. It still seems like it…

This is a place to stop and spend time, imagining the scenes from centuries past… it’s not one to be visited in a whistle-stop fashion. Sit back, relax, and just imagine…

Split, Croatia’s second-largest city, is the location of many Daenerys scenes. Emperor Diocletian constructed the 1700-year- old Diocletian’s Palace in the 3rd century. This remains the city’s most famous site. In GOT, this is Daenarys’ throne room, where she trained her dragons. The ‘kill the masters’ scene in season four takes place here.
