This place is supposed to have been blessed by the Buddhist saint Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche), in the 8th century, who also introduced Buddhism in Sikkim. One can feel the positive spiritual energy throughout the journey. With the local food like momo and thukpa, rhododendron clad mountains, and lovely people of Sikkim around you, it definitely is a great mountain escape . Itinerary in brief
Day 1 - Gangtok: Capital of Sikkim
Drive to Gangtok, one of the most beautiful and cleanest states of India. Surrounded by mountains adorned with rhododendron, Sikkim offers a stunning view of the Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain peak of the world. Arrive in Gangtok and explore the town, its monasteries, and the lovely flowers. Overnight stay at Gangtok.
Day 2 - Gangtok: Mountains and Lakes
Drive towards Changu Lake. The lake gets its waters from softening snows off the encompassing mountains. Head to the Nathula pass which falls in the old silk route and is the border of India and China. Overnight stay at Gangtok.
Day 3 - Lachung: Hill Town
Drive to Lachung visiting villages and waterfalls enroute. Lachung is a small hill town at the confluence of two rivers. Overnight stay at Lachung
Day 4 - Yumthang: The Valley of Flowers
Drive to Yumthang, the valley of flowers. Soak in the colorful natural palette of Rhododendrons and Primulas. This is also the summer grazing grounds of the Yaks. Visit the Sulfur Hot Spring, considered to have restorative properties. Overnight stay at Lachung
Day 5 - Gangtok: Scenic Drive
Get on a scenic drive to Gangtok. Overnight stay at Gangtok
Day 6 - Gangtok: City Tour
Explore the key attractions of Gangtok, Tashi View Point, Ganesh Tok, Flower Show, Do Drul Chorten, Bakthang Falls and more. Drive to Pelling, a serene mountain village for your overnight stay.
Day 7 - Pelling: Monastery and Falls
Visit Pemayangtse Monastery, Rabtense Ruins, Rambi, Darap, Khecheopalri Lake, Kanchenjunga Fall, and Rock Garden. Overnight stay at Pelling.
Day 8 - Darjeeling: Place of Thunderbolt
Drive to Darjeeling, a hill town nestled in the mountains and the home of the famous Darjeeling tea. Overnight stay at Darjeeling
Day 9 - Darjeeling: Tiger Hills
Enjoy a scenic sunrise at Tiger Hills with the horizon changing colors just before sunrise and then the entire Himalayan range turning to a shade of gold. Spend some time at Ghoom Monastery. Explore more of Darjeeling on a toy train and visit The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda. Overnight stay at Darjeeling.
Day 10 - Departure: Alvida!
After soaking in the beauty of the hills travel to Bagdogra airport for your onward journey.
