Uganda

Why visit Uganda?

Uganda outline Map

Called the ‘Pearl of Africa’, Uganda, full of natural treasures, lives up to the name with its abundance of wildlife and the sheer variety of landscapes! Uganda is home to Africa’s tallest mountain range (the snow-capped Rwenzoris), the source of the Nile, the world’s longest river and the continent’s largest lake (Lake Victoria). With nearly 10% of all the bird species in the world and nearly 50% of Africa’s bird and butterfly species, Uganda has more avian species per sq kilometer than anywhere else in the world – a true haven for Bird enthusiasts.

The Big 5 – Yes! That is a given, but with a bit of panache. Here you will get a chance to see the unique tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.

But the highlight of the trip to Uganda has to be the ‘Primate encounters’ – especially the endangered ‘fearsome’ looking Mountain Gorillas and the Chimpanzees. Spending time in close proximity to a family of Mountain Gorillas would surely rate as best wildlife experiences possible– a bucket list item!

The greenery here is also thanks to the  banana, tea and coffee plantations around the villages making the long drives exciting and varied. The Bwindi impenetrable forest features more than 1,000 flowering plant species and almost 200 different types of trees, many of which are endemic. This diverse ecosystem makes it home to an incredible variety of birds, butterflies and mammal species including some of the rarest animals on the planet.

What our Travellers Say

Suchi DevBeyonder Traveller - Wildlife Safari in Uganda

For the uninitiated, the mention of Uganda, would probably be a an impoverished, arid region with nothing special to offer. We were completely taken by surprise by the abundance of natural beauty and unique wildlife here.

”More(+)”

We only recently got to know the exclusive existence of the mountain gorillas in this belt of the world and as fate would have it, were presented with this once in a lifetime opportunity to visit Uganda, a completely off beat destination. True to their tagline, Beyonder is probably one of the few companies which offers a trip to this unique destination.

Right from the beginning, we were updated regularly about our flights, visa, dos and donts, what to expect and how to prepare ourselves for the journey. Having a trip plan app, to give us a detailed account of day to day itinerary, accommodation, emergency contact numbers, information about the sight to visit – What an idea!

We were really impressed with how you were taking care of minute details, like recommending us to rest in the lounge in Mumbai during transit , with details about its location, cost and duration – a caring touch indeed!

On arrival in Entebbe, we were lucky to have Srini, an avid wildlife and nature enthusiast, as our trip leader. Our general perspective of wildlife safari was to see the ‘BIG 5s'( though, not all are found in Uganda) in action. But, after our interactions with Srini, we discovered a whole new world of birds and its innumerable species, thanks to his infectious passion for the winged. We realised that there was so much more to a game drive than just looking out for the ‘star attractions’ . Of course, the highlight of the trip is the gorilla and chimp tracking. Encountering our ‘closest cousins’ at such proximity is an experience which cannot be penned down. The thrill of walking through the lush green rainforest( we also did a night walk!) Is unparalleled. We learnt to fear something tiny- Safari ants!

We were accompanied by 3 fantastic guides, each unique in his own way and all went out of their way to keep us comfortable and make sure that we had a ‘ happy day’ ! All in all, an amazing trip and an amazing group! Thank you for a lifetime of memories!
