Uttaranchal or Devbhoomi (Abode of Gods) has been the destination of sages and intellectuals seeking spiritual attainment, from time immemorial. Holy shrines, mountains, glaciers, rivers, meadows and colourful valleys have always been visited and admired alike by thousands of pilgrims, trekkers, philosophers, poets and artists. I had travelled to this region with my parents who are senior citizens and ours is an amazingly heterogeneous combination…one very religious, one indifferent to religion but keen on history and culture and another avid trekker trying to build appreciation for history and culture. It is a different kind of experience travelling with non-like-minded people but then diversity brings out the best in everyone. As we wandered in the Abode of Gods, along the snow clad mountains, glaciers, river banks and Deodar jungles we discovered ourselves and learnt to appreciate each other’s interest. After all to reach every shrine there is a trek, and every trek ends with a shrine and all of this with big doses of history and mythology. But the biggest draw to these mountains is the unmatched tranquility which is has gone missing from our lives. Come Beyonder and spend a few days in the Lap of Himalayas
