Arrival at Kigali Airport
Arrive at Kigali International Airport to be met and transferred to your hotel in Kigali.
Nyungwe National park
Head off to Nyungwe National park via Butare visiting enroute, the famous National Museum at Butare and the ancient King´s Palace at Nyanza. (B, L, D).
Embark on your first Chimpanzee trek to try and spot these amazing animals in the wild. Later in the afternoon take a nature walk to visit the visit Kamiranzovu waterfall – spot at least 200 tree species over 280 bird species and more than 100 different types of colourful butterfly… (B, L, D).
Canopy walk- Gisenyi
Proceed for the canopy walk along the treetops 50 meters above the ground, to see the forest from above the trees at eye level with birds and monkeys that inhabit the upper storeys of the forest. Then depart for Gisenyi (B, L, D).
Head out to Congo and proceed on a town tour of Goma which was partially destroyed in 2002 in the eruption of Mount Nyiragongo (B, L, D).
Head out early for the highlight of the safari – tracking mountain gorillas in the forest on the slopes of the Virunga… It’s a magical experience like no other – this coming face-to-face with these extremely rare creatures… (B, L, D).
Spend a day hiking the live volcano Nyiragongo – at 3468 meters, Nyiragongo, one of the world’s most beautiful and active volcanoes, towers above the thick jungles of Virunga National Park. Hike to the rim of the 1.2 km wide crater and stay in the Nyiragongo Crater Cabanas on the volcano rim. Sitting on the edge of the crater at night, the red boiling lava and smoking caldera will mesmerize you… (B, L, D).
Descend the Mount Nyiragongo and depart for Ruhengeri area the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains – The Virungas. Explore this picturesque town at leisure (B, L, D).
Golden Monkey Tracking
Drive down for a day of Golden Monkey tracking in the Volcanoes National Park deep in the jungle… Get to watch the way they live in groups and families taking care of their young and going about their daily chores un-self-consciously… Later in the afternoon, head to a local village for an interesting trip to the local brew makers to understand the chemistry about the process of brewing a local beer from bananas. You can even join the women in squeezing the juice out of the bananas and drink a glass of juice if you feel like it… Or you can wait for it to become fruit beer before you try it… (B, L, D).
Akagera National Park
Head for the low-lying undulating plains of Akagera National Park, where the typically hilly countryside gives way to the savannas of the Great Rift Valley. Dominated by lakes, swamps and marshland, the area boasts a huge compliment of nature and wildlife that cannot be found elsewhere in the country. Start your exploration with a game drive by visiting the giraffe valley. Stay within the Park in a beautiful tented camp with astonishing views over Lake Ihema. (B, L, D).
Start a boat trip on Lake Ihema which is a very rewarding for seeing the large number of hippos, the huge Nile crocodiles and many birds. In the late afternoon you will return to the giraffe valley which is usually full of surprises. After a short game drive, drive back to Kigali and explore the city… (B,L).
Visit interesting spots like the craft market, Gisozi genocide memorial site, Kigali museum, etc. After some last minute shopping, head out to the airport for your flight back home. Take back some amazing memories of an unforgettable 11 days immersed in the jungles and nature with up-close encounters with our closest cousins… (B)
